From the middle of pregnancy you can feel your belly harden for a few seconds: these are Braxton Hicks contractions, also called preparation contractions. They last 30—60 seconds, are irregular and do not become more intense or closer. They serve the body to “train” at childbirth and, in most cases, they do not indicate the beginning of labor.
To alleviate them, rest and drink water: dehydration can make them more frequent.Change position or take slow, deep breaths: they often pass by themselves. Avoid intense efforts and listen to your body.If they become regular, painful or accompanied by loss, contact your birth point or your midwife. They are a normal signal: your body is preparing, step by step, for giving birth.
