Compulsory maternity is a period of 5 months off work that employees are entitled to during pregnancy and after giving birth. It serves to guarantee the mother the right rest and to protect her health and that of the child. During this period, the worker still receives an economic allowance, so that she can face motherhood with more peace of mind, without giving up her salary.
In most cases, it is divided into two months before the expected date of delivery and three months later. If the pregnancy is physiological and you have the doctor's favorable opinion, you can ask to work up to one month before giving birth, thus extending your leave to four months later. In specific cases, it is also possible to postpone the entire period of leave and take it only after delivery, provided that a medical certificate certifies that this choice does not pose risks to the health of the mother and child.
