You have the right to choose where to give birth, even if the pregnancy is followed in another facility or consultancy. To decide, find out about the services and characteristics of the birth point: presence of the partner in the delivery room, the possibility of rooming-in (i.e. the possibility of keeping the newborn with you in the room), neonatology department, availability of epidural analgesia or water delivery. Many hospitals organize guided tours or information meetings to learn about the team and the spaces. You can talk to the office or to those who follow you during pregnancy to understand which facilities best meet your needs. Always have a second option: some facilities may be temporarily saturated or redirect the parts to neighboring hospitals. The goal is for the birth to take place in the place where you feel most welcomed, safe and respected.
Before giving birth, also check: - what methods of delivery are offered (natural, scheduled caesarean section, epidural, in water); - if there is an accompanying course or prepared courses; - the reception policies for the newborn and the partner; - the distance from home and the possible availability of parking or transport.
