Upon discharge, you receive a calendar of the first checks. Many screenings are done in the hospital before returning home; others are scheduled in the following weeks.In the hospital (first 24-72 hours) :- Heel test (Guthrie): identifies more than 40 metabolic or rare diseases.- Auditory and eye screening: they check sight and hearing.- Pulse oximetry: detects some congenital heart diseases early.After discharge: - Early neonatological/pediatric examination: usually between the 4th and 7th day for weight, nutrition, jaundice, general well-being.- also: within 3 months (sooner if there are risk factors) for exclude evolutionary dysplasia.- Any investigations (hearing/ophthalmologics/cardiology) if the screening was successful 'to be rechecked'.
Birth screenings take place at the point of birth before discharge. Afterwards, the checks are carried out at the hospital, office or pediatrician.
