The first documents of the newborn

After birth, there is no need to make special requests to obtain the newborn's tax code and health card. When you register the birth to the Municipality, the data is automatically transmitted to the Revenue Agency, which generates the tax code. The code is then sent to the National Health System, which issues the health card and sends it to the parents' home address, usually within a few weeks. The passport is not automatic: it must be requested at the Police Headquarters or an authorized Police Commissariat. You need: Request form completed (available online on the State Police website); photo of the child complying with biometric standards; tax code and health card of the minor; identity documents and consent of both parents; receipt of payment for the postal bill and the stamp. The passport for children under 3 years old is valid for 3 years. It's personal, so every child must have their own travel document.
