Useful Information

During pregnancy, you are entitled to a series of free tests through the National Health Service. The doctor's request with the “M” exemption code and the week of gestation are enough. Blood tests, urine tests and follow-up ultrasound are included. Folic acid, essential for the prevention of neural tube defects, is also free with a prescription.

Some more specific tests are prescribed only in the presence of risk factors or medical indications. Each Region may have different rules on exemption or tickets. Always ask your doctor or midwife what checks are scheduled in your trimester: maintaining a constant dialogue allows you to feel followed and safe.
