Useful Information

During pregnancy, it is normal to gain weight: it serves to nourish the baby and to prepare the body for childbirth. The increase must be gradual and proportionate, to reduce the risk of complications. Your doctor or midwife will help you monitor it during regular checkups. If you notice sudden changes in weight or excessive swelling, talk to your professional right away: this may be a sign to look into.

Indicatively, these are the ranges: - Normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9): recommended increase between 11.5 and 16 kg- Underweight (BMI <18.5): increase between 12.5 and 18 kg- Overweight (BMI 25-29.9): increase between 7 and 11.5 kg- Obesity (BMI ≥30): increase between 5 and 9 kg
