Useful Information

Folic acid is a Class A drug, therefore reimbursed by the National Health Service. You can obtain it free of charge by asking the doctor to prescribe it with the “M” exemption code and the week of pregnancy. It serves to prevent neural tube defects and other malformations in the fetus: a simple but fundamental gesture for the health of your boy or girl.

The intake of folic acid is recommended already in the months before conception and throughout the first trimester of pregnancy. Each Region may provide different methods of delivery (free or with a reduced ticket). If you have not yet started taking it, talk to your doctor or office immediately: they will help you receive the prescription and choose the correct dosage.
