From day one, every trip by car must be done in an approved child seat: it is mandatory by law and, above all, it is what really protects your son or daughter in the event of an accident. In the first few months: - The right seat is the egg (group 0+), designed for children up to about 13 kg or 76 cm in height.- It must always be turned in the opposite direction, up to at least 15 months of age.- It is safer to mount it in the back seat, preferably in the middle; if you place it in front, deactivate the airbag. Always check that the seat is well fixed (with ISOFIX system or seat belt) and that the straps adhere well to the body, removing thick coats or jackets. After the egg, we move on to the next group 1 or i-Size seats, which adapt to the child's height and weight.
It's best to avoid buying second-hand child seats, unless you know their history with certainty. Even a small previous collision can compromise its safety, even if you can't see it. For the purchase, you can go to stores specialized in early childhood (which also offer advice on installation), stores affiliated with the ASST or with local police, who in some cities organize days to check child seats.
